In more recent years, there has been a lot of talk about the potential dangers of artificial hair color.

There is even a link between some of the chemicals used in hair color and higher risk for cancer. With the greater part of the worry encompassing counterfeit hair shading, numerous customers have begun to investigate natural hair shading as a practical choice.

Organic hair colors are dyes that consist of little or no harsh chemicals. Many organic hair colors do not use ammonia, the harsh chemical used to lift the cuticle layer of the hair and lighten the hair.

It is frequently excluded from organic hair dyes, but may be substituted for 2-methylresorcinol or butylresorcinol, which are synthetic non-toxic chemicals.

A couple of the organic hair dyes are PPD free. Para-phenylenediamine is used as an oxidation agent in hair color, but is thought to have extremely dangerous effects on health. Not all organic products exclude PPD from their dyes.

In the place of these potentially dangerous chemicals, organic hair colors use natural essential oils, fruit extracts and soy bases. Heena colorant which is used in many organic hair color.

Most organic hair dyes continue to use hydrogen peroxide in their color. Hydrogen peroxide is used in permanent dyes as an oxidizing agent that helps start the color-forming process by breaking down the natural hair pigments. Since it is a non-toxic chemical and necessary to the hair coloring process, most organic hair dyes still include peroxide in their products.

Organic hair color has grown in popularity in recent years as clients try to find safer, healthier alternatives to artificial hair colors. While organic dyes are free of many harsh, potentially hazardous chemicals, they are not completely natural in their ingredients.

As organic colors don’t contain ammonia (and contains the lowest level of pdd’s possible) it’s less likely to irritate someone with a skin disorder. I also have a lot of pregnant clients who like to keep their colour looking glossy during their pregnancy.

There is no evidence that coloring hair during pregnancy is harmful, but some clients like to wait until they’ve passed their first trimester. For these two groups of people, I would always advise a skin test as if you are more susceptible to allergic reactions it’s best to always be safe.

Can natural organic hair colour work as well as normal hair color?

Yes of course! Organic color not only gives the client the peace of mind that their color is safe and natural; it also won’t compromise on fabulous color. Banish any thoughts of henna, this is a proper color with excellent results comparable to any normal hair color, but I find leaves hair even shinier and in better condition.

Can natural hair color last as long and stay as vibrant?

Yes, especially if you use the right aftercare products. Organic Color Systems products don’t contain salt (a bulking agent widely used in shampoos) as it strips the color quickly. OCS use wheat protein instead.
